Cambria Hickory Nut end grain butcher block

The Cambria Hickory Nut is a rectangular butcher block made from hickory heartwood and sapwood. Amish craftspeople in Northern Wisconsin build each block from 2.25-inch-thick solid wood with end grain construction and a beeswax oil treatment.

Wood pattern

Hickory Nut combines darker heartwood with lighter sapwood. The mix creates a range of wood tones across the end grain surface. Natural grain and color vary from block to block.

Choose your size

  • 12 by 15 inches, 2.25 inches thick
  • 14 by 18 inches, 2.25 inches thick
  • 16 by 20 inches, 2.25 inches thick

All three sizes include juice grooves around the cutting surface, finger slots for lifting and rubber feet underneath. Measure your counter, sink and storage space before choosing a size, allowing room to lift and clean the block.

Compare the wood patterns in the Cambria collection. If you prefer a round surface, see Hudson chopping blocks, or browse both shapes in our butcher blocks collection.

Cleaning and conditioning

Hand-wash with warm, soapy water, towel-dry and allow the block to air-dry on edge. Do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. Apply conditioner when the wood looks dry. Our cutting board care guide covers cleaning, oiling and storage. Beeswax and mineral oil conditioner is available separately.

We offer free shipping on orders of $149 or more when delivered in the contiguous U.S. (48 states and Washington, D.C.). Free shipping is automatically applied at checkout.

Your order will be filled and shipped within 7 to 10 business days. With shipping included, the actual delivery can take another 3 to 5 days before reaching your doorstep.

Please note that business days are Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and federal holidays.

Daily Cleaning: After each use, remove food particles with a nylon brush or dishcloth. Wash with warm soapy water, scrubbing the entire surface, edges, and bottom. Rinse thoroughly, dry with a dish towel, then stand on edge to air dry for at least one hour. Never put your board in the dishwasher, soak it in water, or use steel wool or bleach, as these will damage the wood.

Regular Maintenance: Apply beeswax oil wood conditioner monthly or whenever the board appears dry or dull. After cleaning and drying completely, rub a small amount of oil into the entire surface including edges. Let it absorb for one hour, then wipe off excess. This protective barrier prevents cracking and extends your board's life by maintaining even moisture throughout the wood.

Proper Storage: Store your cutting board vertically or on edge in a well-ventilated area to prevent warping. Keep it away from heat sources like stoves and ovens, and avoid direct sunlight. Never use your board as a hot plate, as heat will damage the glue joints and over-dry the wood, causing cracks.

Remember: Wood naturally expands and contracts with moisture changes. The key to preventing cracks is maintaining even moisture throughout the board. Clean the entire surface (not just the cutting area), oil regularly, and allow proper air circulation during storage. With these simple care steps, your cutting board will remain beautiful and functional for generations.

WHY END-GRAIN?

End-grain construction keeps your knives sharper longer. The vertical wood fibers allow knife blades to slide between them rather than cutting through, reducing wear on your expensive knives while the board naturally self-heals over time.
