Hudson October round chopping block

The Hudson October brings six woods together in a round end grain chopping block: maple, cherry, hickory, walnut, white oak and red grandis. Amish craftsmen in Northern Wisconsin make each block from solid wood, with a 2.25-inch-thick body and a beeswax oil treatment.

A different pattern in every block

October uses a random mix of the six woods rather than a repeating arrangement. Light and dark pieces create a varied surface, and the grain, colors and placement will differ from block to block. The photographs show examples of the October wood mix.

Three diameter options

  • 14-inch diameter, 2.25 inches thick
  • 16-inch diameter, 2.25 inches thick
  • 18-inch diameter, 2.25 inches thick

All three sizes have a juice groove, finger slots for lifting and rubber feet underneath. Before choosing a size, measure your counter and storage space and check that you can comfortably wash the full diameter in your sink.

Cleaning and conditioning

Hand-wash with warm, soapy water, towel-dry and let the block air-dry on edge. Do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. Condition the wood when it looks dry; see our cutting board care guide for instructions. Beeswax and mineral oil conditioner is sold separately.

We offer free shipping on orders of $149 or more when delivered in the contiguous U.S. (48 states and Washington, D.C.). Free shipping is automatically applied at checkout.

Your order will be filled and shipped within 7 to 10 business days. With shipping included, the actual delivery can take another 3 to 5 days before reaching your doorstep.

Please note that business days are Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and federal holidays.

Daily Cleaning: After each use, remove food particles with a nylon brush or dishcloth. Wash with warm soapy water, scrubbing the entire surface, edges, and bottom. Rinse thoroughly, dry with a dish towel, then stand on edge to air dry for at least one hour. Never put your board in the dishwasher, soak it in water, or use steel wool or bleach, as these will damage the wood.

Regular Maintenance: Apply beeswax oil wood conditioner monthly or whenever the board appears dry or dull. After cleaning and drying completely, rub a small amount of oil into the entire surface including edges. Let it absorb for one hour, then wipe off excess. This protective barrier prevents cracking and extends your board's life by maintaining even moisture throughout the wood.

Proper Storage: Store your cutting board vertically or on edge in a well-ventilated area to prevent warping. Keep it away from heat sources like stoves and ovens, and avoid direct sunlight. Never use your board as a hot plate, as heat will damage the glue joints and over-dry the wood, causing cracks.

Remember: Wood naturally expands and contracts with moisture changes. The key to preventing cracks is maintaining even moisture throughout the board. Clean the entire surface (not just the cutting area), oil regularly, and allow proper air circulation during storage. With these simple care steps, your cutting board will remain beautiful and functional for generations.

WHY END-GRAIN?

End-grain construction keeps your knives sharper longer. The vertical wood fibers allow knife blades to slide between them rather than cutting through, reducing wear on your expensive knives while the board naturally self-heals over time.
